Which of these is a famous collection of writings concerning the early Medieval Period in Britain?

I've not heard of the Anglo Saxon chronicle

The calligraphy and artwork alone is absolutely beautiful. Back in ancient times the authors of such works wanted their creativity to be appreciated for centuries. Somehow a calf in formaldehyde just doesn't come close!
