What animated short story morphed into the longest-running TV series in U.S. history?

Everything about this show is crude and clumsy: the drawings, the animation, the voices, the characters, the stories. BUT - it hits its targets (like hypocrisy, greed, prejudice, rotten government) with extraordinary accuracy and says the truthful things others are often reluctant to say. That's why people watch it.

Hate the Simpson's don't even watch it!! it is very inappropriate!! I would say!
