Historically, what was a Sultan's consort called?

the lady who owns the local corner shop near my home is named Sultana. In Liverpool, Queen was used by people to call a woman by shopkeepers or bus drivers. eg: "come on queen there's room upstairs." or by husbands, "my old queen", meaning their wife.

Lorraine , Do you happen to know if the name Sultana also has some connection to the dried fruit? Would be interested to know if the two are connected.
