Very much knew the shorter version of this Scottish cultural attire & thanks to the show Outlander I got to see the longer version. It can look really lovely on the right person & worn the right way.

Player #7106191, It was very much a romanticised thing introduced by Walter Scott to revive Scottish nationalism in the 1800's. Ever a practical people, they wore 'trewsers' when fighting and working. Kilts were only ever ceremonial or dress-ups.
