Purple Kitty, North and Eatern parts of America have Scottish culture and descent communities also wearing these kilts as casual wear. There are also the Highland Games and Burns' Supper nights there too.

Player #7106191, It was very much a romanticised thing introduced by Walter Scott to revive Scottish nationalism in the 1800's. Ever a practical people, they wore 'trewsers' when fighting and working. Kilts were only ever ceremonial or dress-ups.
