What are shoes of a football (soccer) player called?

I grew up with the word cleats...

Player #134726817, In the UK we call them boots and they used to be boots. They were brown leather and came up to the ankle. Football socks are now sometimes called stockings. They used to be thick woolen socks and the shorts came down to the knees. Footballs used to be heavy brown leather, with laces and an air bladder inside. How times have changed 😀
