Where does aspirin come from?
Correct answer: The bark of a tree
BaileyPittipat
willow bark. been used in teas by native peoples in North America forever.
Missy K
Urbanmythos IS CORRECT! The willow bark has the natural chemical that a scientist and the Bayer corporation learned to make a synthetic copy and called it asprin. You cannot patent nature, so in order to brand it and make money you have to learn the chemical makeup and make it synthetically to profit. I take wi.low bark instead of aspirin for aches, the nature form offe4s other great benefits, like antioxidants, that you will not get from a synthetic chemical.

Montana Lady,
Thanks, really good to know. Now I won't be "barking up the wrong tree"...😁
Montana Lady
MuddyColony29304, just so you know, it's bark of the white willow tree, not any random willow... weeping or what not. You can just take a twig and chew on it, if need be.

Most all medicines originated from plants and seeds.

why is aspirin misspelled 3 times in the explanation?

WiseWoman, it's nice to share knowledge but very rude to condescend to those who are still learning!
Momma Mo4u
You see they didn't tell the name of the tree. We are being robbed by the big pharma companies. They'd rather sell man made chemicals that cause more damage to sell more pills! I'm going to research this as a natural pain remedy.

I knew the answer cuz of the Clan of the Cave Bear series. It’s been quite a while since I last read them, so I don’t recall which specific book this info was in. But I read them numerous times when I was younger. The first three are especially good. Long live Ayla the Medicine Woman!

Willow bark contains salicin which forms into salicylic acid in the body. Aspirin is prepared by chemical synthesis from salicylic acid, through acetylation with acetic anhydride, forming acetylsalicylic acid. I've made it in chemistry lab before fairly easy to make.

Player #12616451, the splinters might take your mind off the original pain..?

Missy K, the same lab at Bayer that invented aspirin also invented heroin a few weeks later. The lab was acetylating various compounds, which included the discovery of acetylsalicylate acid (aspirin) and diacetylmorphine (heroin).
