During an ice hockey match, how many players can be on the rink from both teams at the same time?

I read this as how many players from *each* team. Maybe the wording can be changed?

This sport to me, a non sports person ,is the most interesting to watch. And an empty net is not always effective.

Tricky when they change lines out or pull the goalie. The officials watch closely.
