when I worked at a Jewish hospital in the 1970s, I learned about this. one was attached to the doorway of each hospital room.

K O T K, It is also good to note that so many diverse stories & traditions in any & all mythologies/ faiths/ religions/ cults/ beliefs/etc. are wonderful. Limiting one's self stifles one's growth. So entertaining & educational to research them all. To each their own.

I am not Jewish but have a best friend since 3rd grade. Also another of my childhood friends whose sister lostt her life in a shooting as she dove in front of the Rabbi in Pomona, California. Learned alot about the religion and Shalom!
