I always wonder how buildings in those days could be destroyed by fire. I mean, I imagine them being made of only stone?

Crete is a good place to visit with lots of history, super beaches and friendly people.

Aukyboy, ceilings are rarely constructed of stone, particularly in large buildings.

whitesloth91, I used to be amazed. And then I had a chance to visit Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The original prison itself was built in the early 1800s. That part of the building is standing and for the most part is in fine shape. Additions were made to the building around the time of Roxbury 1950. That interestingly, is falling apart.
