I saw this game in TV ONCE, and I have never seen it offered since. I was about twelve, so it was forty years ago, but it goes something like this:
On a huge field, seemingly larger than a soccer or football field, gather two bands of Irish roughians armed with flat bats (though not as flat as cricket bats) and a ball somewhat smaller than (but significantly larger than) a softball. At each end of the field are goals similar in size to a soccer goal, but the horizontal bar is slightly higher and the vertical bats extend some forty feet high. The goalkeeper "hurls" the ball into play; players advance by dribbling the ball on tbe bat while defenders try to cream you. Drop the ball and it goes to the other team. You can catch with ball or hand. Hit the ball between the poles for a point; drop it below the horizontal bar for three. You may not use the bat as a weapon, kick, punch or bite. Everything else is pretty much fair game. Exciting as all get out!
