I know it controls the "fight or flight" response.

This is what kills me. By now, the brain has been studied enough to determine the EXACT part responsible for mechanical bodily functions, etc. Now, dissect cells made up of goo which allow emotion. Organic matter scrambled together that results, a huge leap here, into thinking. Whaaaaa??! Help! I don’t get the connection. That’s a huge leap! Another part of my brain runs my legs. It’s goo is different than emotional goo. And every cell has the same structure: mitochondria, ribosomes, chromosomes. So chemical reaction of the cell produces movement or thought. Goo made up from the usual suspects found in the periodic table. Cooked together ala Julia Child to produce a soufflé like Albert Einstein.

RushMama2112, The "reptile brain" is the brain stem, the oldest part of the brain. This area controls heartbeat, respiration (imagine if we had to remember to breathe), blood pressure, and other functions of life.

Isn't it what's sometimes called the "lizard brain?"
