Correct answer: Bell-bottoms

I heard bell-bottoms were used because they were easy to kick off underwater if you were drowning.

My Dad being a sailor and also being a kid in the 70s made this easy for me 👍

Nannad, we all wore bell bottoms in the 70’s. There used to be an “oldies” club here in Atlanta , GA, USA
called “Bell Bottoms” where they only played songs from the 70’s

Chap725, being used for a flotation device is exactly what I heard, makes sense. Plus the guys looked "HOT" in them. A thin and chubby guy could rock that uniform. I think the Navy Uniform is the sexiest.

They where called Swabbies. We would by them at the army navy surplus stores in the 1960s & 70s.
