Just as a bit of a curiosity. The Dutch named Rottnest as they were first Europeans to land on the West Australian coast. When they saw the Quokkas at a distance they thought they were Rats. Rottnest translates from Dutch to English as Rats - nest.

Player #40380450, it’s pronounced “kwokka”. They are extremely cute up close and personal. Unfortunately like all cute animals they can be endangered by human interaction. There is an expression in Perth “quokka soccer” , where some of our less intelligent young men would kick them to each other. It’s a fairly serious offense under the wildlife laws, and when they go to court they are treated with outrage and contempt.

Get Smart, I lived on Rottnest for 16-years. Quokkas have been found to have high intelligence when researchers tested THEM, they live up to 10 to 15 years and populations were found down South in Margrer river and other Areas, I 've they were wide spread now mainly on Rottnest.
