In the metaphysics of identity, what is the 'Ship of Theseus'?
Correct answer: A thought experiment

Each board that is replaced becomes part of the original ship and takes on its identity. If the reconstituted wood is used to build a house is that house a ship? No it's a new house, if it's used to build a new ship it's a new ship, not the original ship.

Ryan, so could you day the same about the human body and how it's always renewing its cells ?

Triggers' brush!

It is not the same object; it is a replica of what the object was. If more than 50% of the object is replaced but less than 100%, it is partly the same object. If less than 50% but greater than 0%, it is mostly the same, but not entirely.

A real life Ship of Theseus is Nelson’s HMS Victory. I believe this is still an active commissioned vessel of Her Majesty’s Royal Navy , and since the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 routine maintenance has repleced timbers where necessary

Just guessed but I think therefore I am! The fact is that wether or not it’s new, ancient or the original artifact in question ie a clock with a new dial that was made in say 1800 it’s still a piece of history that we can study and learn from hopefully in a positive way 👍

I didn't know what 'Dermetic' meant. Apart from a brand of cosmetics, I can't find anything.
Anyone?
