What was the purpose of the Lighthouse of Alexandria?

The picture shown is from the game called Assassin's Creed Origins. If you are really interested in historical events, icons, monuments then i recommend you to play Assassin's Creed series. This games takes actual historical events as its main story while adding their own twists and plots in the stories. The targets that you have to assassinate in this game were actually assassinated in real life.
