Here in Australia it's called the HbA1c test. I have it done at least once a year. Twice I've been pre-diabetic & twice I've managed to get back to normal levels. A combination of healthy foods only (ie: NO junk food, cookies, choc etc) plus exercise helps but it's a constant battle with all the processed foods out there.

Donna, not all diabetes is hereditary. As an example, gestational diabetes can happen during pregnancy, but once the baby is delivered, the mother's insulin production usually returns to normal.
