Tylenol decided to pull ALL their meds off the shelf - a very expensive decision but was the "right" thing to do. Rare in corporate America.

My uncle was a mailman at that time in Chicago and knocked on every door on his route to warn the people. Many had not known early on.

I was sales rep for the baby products division of Johnson & Johnson which is the parent company for Tylenol. All reps in all divisions were pulled off of their regular assignments to visit each retail store and make sure all Tylenol was removed from store shelves.

a number of products, medicinal, edible, and hygienic were tampered with in various ways by "copy cats" and "disciples" who practically worshipped the evilness that started these! eye drops were replaced with acid, needles, broken glass, and razor blades were inserted into fruits, and dermal creams and ointments were mixed with lyes and toxic chemicals! I remember these were some of the same evil things people did with Halloween candies and snacks around the same time!

Player Say what!?, Sadly Tylenol wasn't the only thing tampered with. Also more foreign objects found in food in starting in late 70s. The world has changed

They were only able to prove in court that the man sent the note to the company demanding money to stop the killings, but had commmitted many crimes before that, so they were pretty sure he did it. He was just pure evil and it wasn't to cover up another murder, although he had killed before. This was back before sophisticated forensic evidence was used much. Seven people died from the cyanade-laced Tylenol. I threw away a bottle of Tylenpl even though it was old enough it couldn't have been involved.
