In my state, up until the early 80s I think, you couldn't buy the bowls at all if it was a Sunday. "Blue Laws" limited Sunday sales pretty much to food and medicine, IIRC. Entire aisles in the supermarket were roped off. Of course, don't even think about buying alcohol, other than the rubbing variety.
