Very similar to the Australian magpie I believe they are capable of face recognition.

I used to work in a factory in Scotland near farmers fields, during nice weather, we were allowed to sit out the back at picnic tables, I started throwing unused sandwiches to the local crows, after a while everytime I came out you would hear them come (crows mate for life). Five years later I've lost my job, but still cycle 5 miles twice a week, to feed, what will be the granddaughter, or grandson of these fine birds. The most intelligent birds you will meet.

YouTube has countless videos of crows and their super intelligence.

Fiddlesticks, My uncle had a Mynah bird when I was little. He taught it to curse like a sailor, so they kept it away from me. It was a very smart bird.

My childhood cat had this Mom crow attacking him and btching him out for several seasons. We assumed he killed her nest/babies, then her! (when our back yard became quiet).

I have another crow story. One day I found an injured crow. It was too late to take it to the Humane Society so I brought it home with me and put it out on my balcony. The next morning I brought it to the Humane Society. About a week after that I was sitting out on my balcony and a crow landed on the bannister of the balcony. I never saw a crow in our courtyard before or after that incident. I swear it was the same crow coming to say, “Thank you”.

I taught school in California and the students would hang there backpacks on hooks outside. The crows would unzip the backpacks and take out students’ lunches if they were in paper bags. They enjoyed many lunches until students learned to bring their lunches inside!!

Supposedly that's how osama bin laden was found! The military trained crows to recognize his face while firecrackers were going off and frightening them. Those crows alerted the military to his whereabouts in a pakistanian compound. They went crazy when they saw his face... the rest is history.

I watched a crow share it’s food. There was a French fry laying in a parking lot. The crow was pecking at it. A mouse kept darting out of the nearby shrubs trying to get close to the fry but ultimately getting too frightened of the crow and backing away. The crow observed this behavior then broke off a piece of the fry and deposited it near the shrubs where the mouse could find it. Intelligent and empathetic. My favorite bird.

Cd, Are you blaming the crow!!! Such superstition. We aren’t living in the Middle Ages.

Player #18687395: I know that our No American Magpies are of the same family of birds, Corvids. Perhaps those you mentioned are as well? I admire their wit and clever problem solving abilities, never underestimate a Corvid! :)
