Hugs or touching make me uncomfortable too. I get all the physical affection I want/need from my husband, and anyone who forces a hug on me automatically makes me uneasy around them. That sensation like fire is spot on; it's actually an uncomfortable burning to me. I'm very much aware the entire time someone's touching me, wondering when it will stop. BTW never been abused.

I never forced my child to hug family or friends. Only greet. It should be their choice if they want to or not. It teaches them to follow their own instincts.

ButtOrScotch, If I ever want to give someone a hug, I always ask first, "Can I give you a hug?" - out of respect for those who - for any reason - don't want a hug from me (or possibly from anyone who they know and feel most comfortable and safe with). Always ask... and respect their answer.
