The berries of which plant are poisonous?

I did not know that there were berries involved.

My grandparents would heap the soil up around the spears as they grew to keep them white, they said green spears were slightly poisonous.

Interesting. I am fond of asparagus, particularly served with a quality hollandaise sauce.
