'The Aeneid' is an epic poem written by Virgil in which language?

We had to read it in the original Latin, in Latin class in high school. It really helped me later when I studied French and Spanish.

The work was commissioned by emperor Augustus, who wanted to link his legacy to Romulus and Troy. It is said that when the poet was on his death bed, he ordered the poem to be burned, as it was not finished. But Augustus managed to override that wish and saved it for posterity.
