Founder of the famous literary prizes, what was the occupation of Joseph Pulitzer?

I had heard of the prize but not about the man himself, this is really interesting.

It's interesting that the prize is about journalistic excellence despite his own style being sensationalist. There some good ones nowadays, but mostly "journalism" appears to be telling us what some randoms have said on social media.
