That's how you make Emu Stew (traditional Australian dish). First put a rounded river stone in the pot, add Emu and other ingredients, boil for 3 days. Throw away Emu and eat stone, it will be softer... lol

I'm very familiar with the story, so I answered accordingly, but I think the question is too open. Lots of European stories with soup out there!

Davy, Livingston, this was one of my favorite stories as a child. In my version the villagers tell the soldiers they have no food and the soldiers make “Stone Soup”. The rest of the story is the same.

Old Fool, I would throw out Emu meat also. The stone would probably taste better.

I've heard this story before but with a button instead of a stone. Buttons were usually made from bone back then and would make more sense to "flavor" the soup.

at first, I want to choose stone without using any help, but somehow I felt doubt. Then I used a help, indeed... the answer is stone. This folk is quite similar to the one I heard in my place. However, this one really makes sense and delivers moral lesson.

Somehow I knew the answer right away. But, depending on what type of stone it is... it might have had lots of needed minerals in it. Boiling the stone instead of crushing it, well ....

rayvan, Try reading the explanation. If that’s too hard it’s a scam to get the villagers to “share” all their ingredients when the soup makers actually have nothing to contribute
