In what month is Earth closest to the Sun?

Don't expect to be spoon fed all the time.

I had no clue of the answer and they still don't give a decent explanation unlike other questions. Still happy to learn something new though 😀

The Earth's orbit around the Sun is elliptical and is a bit like a progressive slingshot. The date of the perihelion (the time when the Earth is closed to the Sun) is currently in early January but it wasn't always and it won't be in the future. It will drift further on into the year, but not much in your or my lifetime!

Why is it that sometimes they don't really explain the answer?
