Isn't black defined as the absence or complete absorption of light, making that a legitimate answer? I knew which to choose though.

It is called a black hole because it appears black. Does empty stellar space appear any less black? To appease the technical should it be renamed a dark hole, a nonreflective ultragravitational space entity?
