Which of these is an order of chivalry associated with Scotland?
Correct answer: Order of the Thistle
TheKiltedScotsman
The thistle, it is told, became Scotland's National flower in 1266 after the Treaty of Perth between Alexander III and Hakon IV, after the Battle in Largs at which Scotland managed to fend off Norse invaders circumnavigating the Western coast of Scotland from Orkney and landing in Arran, and then to Largs. At night, during the Battle at Largs, the Vikings had planned to sneak over to Alexander III's army camp and kill them there and then, but a Viking stood on a thistle and screamed in pain, and this alerted Alexander III and his men to the attack - who were already prepared with their battle armour and weapons.

I played for a soccer (fùtbol) team named "Thistle" in the 80's here in Los Angeles. A Scottish buddy of mine was responsible for helping me find out about the team.
