QuixoticNerd21405, Yellowstone is dormant right now. When speaking of volcanoes, "dormant" means not erupting at the moment. When it's expected to never erupt again, it is extinct. There is geothermal activity at Yellowstone, but the magma chamber is far below the surface. When Yellowstone is ready to erupt, the warnings will be unmistakable and loud.

Although there now are many tourists, our national parks are something to write home about! A great blessing is Mother Nature.

this is a tricky question. Yosemite was established first but wasn't a national park. Yellowstone received national protection because it was still a territory and didn't have a state to provide protected status.

As a native Montanan, I've lived close to Yellowstone all my life and visited often. My grandma would spend most of her time on our visits yelling at foolish tourists. More people are maimed and/or killed by moose and bison in MT (and Yellowstone) than all predators combined.

The magma under Yellowstone Park is close enough to the surface to power all the geysers, hot springs, and mud pots. The caldera is 72 km (45 miles) wide. When it blows, the shockwave will immediately kill 90,000 people. Most of the magma will fall back into the caldera, but the US will be buried in over 3 meters (10 ft) of ash for 1600 km (1000 miles) around the volcano.
