What is the name of the extra cube/third die in each Backgammon set?

I thought the pieces that are put into play were called “stones”. First time I’ve heard “checkers or men”.

i dont know backgammon (imported) but i play Scrabble

I already forgot this game which was introduced to me by my Iranian friends...

I love backgammon, still play it to date. was the best thing to do in between my college classes.
