Kiss me, I'm Irish? I know there's plenty of mistletoe on Vancouver Island (B.C., Canada). Tho it sounds like a pagan tradition to me, like hand fasting or jumping the broom.

Depends on what sort of mistletoe to what host tree, there are some that grow on eucalyptus trees here in the southern hemisphere. But kissing at Xmas is definitely one of many examples of the Christian church absorbing a pagan ritual into it's agenda and this one probably came form Druidic sources.

Player dwelsh113, No it doesn't. It grows on apple trees and just outside Cambridge (England) there are a number of other trees, probably poplars, but certainly not oaks, with lots of miseltoe growing in them. Druids grew miseltoe in their sacred oak groves, though.

Mistletoe also grows in non-oak trees, like mesquites. I know because I have many with with mistletoe.
