Which of these debut novels chronicles the lives of three multicultural families in post-war London?

This question was actually on the TV version of this quiz recently, I happily got it right then and now too. I know a little bit about the Author simple because she grew up in the same flats as myself in NW London and we talked about her recently. I've never read the book but will one day.
