You forgot that on 1974 Turkey invate in Cyprus and since then occupied 40% of the land and around 200,000 people are refugees on their own country .

Both Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Republic of Cyprus has their capital as Nicosia.
They intervened in this Cyprus conflict because the southern Cyprus are towards the Greeks and Northern Cyprus towards the Turkish.
Since then, UN established a zone splitting Cyprus. The reason why they intervened because of the ethnic people in Northern Cyprus which is way different from "Southern Cyprus"... There would be Cyprus unification if both sides accept it.
