When did modern field hockey emerge?

In Canada field hockey is played mainly by women.

ProudCanadian, I went to one of the public schools mentioned. One of our fixtures was against our sister school. More like gang warfare . Those girls inflicted more injuries and damage on our in a single game than we suffered during a whole season of rugby. I’m not sure women play hockey, more that they use it as military training!
