When do Germans traditionally eat sauerkraut (sour cabbage)?

I am was born and lived in Germany for a long time, and never heard of this Sauerkraut tradition

I'm of German descent, and we eat sauerkraut whenever we want to: not just once a year!

Sauerkraut actually allowed the British Navy to dominate the seas. In the absence of citrus fruit (which would have been most of the time) it was fed to the sailors to prevent scurvy.

Stef, Probably a tradition in one region . My mother was from Berlin and we never had this.

Im german we dont eat sauerkraut on new years eve nor is it a special german tradition
