Which bird has been called the "laughing jackass"?

As soon as I saw Kookaburra I automatically had it’s call playing in my head haha

Shortly after moving to Australia, my uncle visited us and asked if he could borrow an alarm clock as he needed to get up a 7am for some reason. So we lent him one. Next afternoon when he returned from his activity he commented unhappily that "our joke [giving him the clock] was not funny." We had forgotten that the guest bedroom had a large tree outside the window, which housed a family of Kookaburras. Dawn was before 5am that day.

I thought of the old children's song. I would give my right arm to hear that cacophony, but will have to settle for an internet search. 😏

This bird reminds me of a drunken jolly grandpa who laughs at his own jokes and can do no wrong. I love this bird. 😁

Several weeks ago my old roomie in Australia called me and while we were talking I heard a strange sound and asked her if that was a kookaburra. It was. It had landed on her balcony. I hadn't heard one since I left Oz.
