There's a lovely flat fish endemic to Hawaii called a Peacock Flounder. Pretty blue spots yet it can still blend into the sandy bottom.

Flatfish is just a generic name.
They should be called "flat fish" (a description of what they look like)
They include species like flounder, sole, plaice, halibut, dab and turbot.
There are many more, and they're delicious.
