Where did the Vikings originate from?

Vikings reached well beyond the regions listed, though those were their main areas of dominance. But they also reached North America, Egypt and Russia, even becoming important figures in the history of the last two countries.

I never thought that they got the proper credit for the things they achieved. they were always made out to be barbarians.
