What is the name of the worldwide event when people turn off non-essential electric lights for one hour?

Why dont they try and make it 1 day? Its better than just 1 hour

Never heard of it & as modern lightbulbs use hardly anything it seems an empty gesture.

In south africa our government switches everyone's electricity off for several hours and call it loadshedding. the legacy of incompetence

I have never heard of that gesture. It's a great idea.

Many times, I didn’t have money to pay electric bill, then electricity supliers they disconnect the electricity line that time I have stayed in dark for one week and more.

I'm from Cuba and spent 29 years of my life with blackouts for weeks after every storm. Also, after the fall of the Soviet Union, we had blackouts every single day for 3 to 4 hours and many weekends from 5 to 6 hours. I live now in the United States, and I'm not turning my lights out!...I've done my share.

Manel, Agree , have spent 45yrs+ being concerned as to Our abuse of Planet Earth. Only now when Global Devistation is occurring are 'The Powers ' listening. Today River traffic is being made difficult in Germany due to drought ? in England crops are failing due to lack of rain. Meanwhile unusual flooding is occurring around Our Home Planet. A Beluga Whale has made its way to France ..??

Player #24460218, Not everyone is using the modern light bulbs. Millions of powerful lighting is still carrying on every where. Even though we don't know all about it.

In Canada we have been doing this for a long time now. When the day gets closer it'll be announced by variety of media so the people can off their extra lights or even off the lights completely for an hour.

This was an event when do at 3rd world countries to respect mother nature. No matter time zone you where or how little energy you consume, observe at planetwide this is majestically huge.

Why not always turn off non essentials and pull the plug? I always do that in order to save money!
