What are flat, slipper-like shoes from the Middle East called?

Although I've read it several times, the third paragraph remains unclear to me. It seems to be an incomplete sentence and/or thought.

I have a pair I ended up with ages ago. They're a bit more fancy than those pictured and bright pink with decorative bits on the toe. Now I know what they're called. :D
