What does acceleration in human development mean?

Wouldn't have anything to do with changes in diet by any chance? Surely all the chemicals and additives in modern day manufactured foods and the hormones used in meat production has played a big part.

How much has been spent on this study? And just what is it exactly that has been learned with these studies? Surely something other than changes in height & menstruation has been learned - anything? Sad.
