In 'Star Trek:The Next Generation', Patrick Stewart played Picard, but who else was considered for the role?

I like learning useful stuff. However, I don't care who didn't actually act in a show.

I loved the late Yaphet Kotto!! He would have made a Great Captain! As Idi Amin and as the FBI Alonso in Midnight Run he showed he had plenty of grit and acting chops!!
