friend, The original maglev train was the British “Hovertrain” headquartered in Cambridge I believe . While working for a demolition firm I was involved in moving a building to their test track in Earith where they had a mile of track and an prototype which I watched working . Like so many technologies developed in Britain the government withdrew funding and basically it withered on the vine and the technology went elsewhere

I got to travel on the Shanghai maglev train. It is pretty surreal building up to a speed of 410+ km/hr on land. Going past cars on an adjacent freeway at 300 km/hr was certainly impressive.
