What happens when the moon gets between Earth and the sun?

highly recommend if you catch this event, DO IT you'll never forget it! I went to see a solar eclipse w/ my mom and experienced all the events during it (ex. temp change, animals acting strange, water receding, moon looking like a sparkling ring!,etc.) also the people around were so kind. we went to Greensboro, SC.
