Richie, Now after Brexit the whole EU thing seems to be falling apart. She was right to be sceptical of it.

it was far more than the European question that led to her resignation. She started to believe herself too powerful and loved the iron lady tag. She resigned because she knew that she couldn't win the party leadership contest. Many in her party had wanted her out for years.

diamondgeezer11, I think that many British prime ministers with large majorities in the Commons got to enjoy having it all their own way. The 1st past the post electoral system can make for strong and decisive leaders but it can also become an elective dictatorship. Tony Blair was another who also started to think that nobody should disagree with him after enjoying a massive majority for a long time. Maggie wasn't the 1st and won't be the last to get carried away with herself!!!

Always thought Maggie was a brilliant PM but after watching the Falklands documentary and hearing from some top Generals that she cost poor soldiers thier lives to make herself look good. Not so happy with her now. just like all the rest out for her own glory and greed

It was the poll tax that finished her in the end, a hugely unpopular tax, and she refused to back down.

diamondgeezer11, The problem with British politics is that many still vote for the party where they like the leader or the leader’s stated policies. So many of those in Parliament who then wish to dispose of a leader may actually have not been there under a different leader
