Which rock artist inspired the song "Killing Me Softly with His Song"?

I thought Tapestry was by Carole King, but checked and Don Maclean released an album called Tapestry as well.

'Empty Chairs' is a great song, especially love the lyrics and I can totally understand how they could evoke the thoughts leading to the song 'Killing me softly' yet another great song.
