What is the Fermi paradox?
Correct answer: A contradiction between alien life and its existence

Player #6103765
Intelligent life could have developed in other places millions of years ago and died off again. Also would need faster than light travel to make physical contact.

Blinky
To be honest, we have no idea if, where, when and on what scale other life exists out there.

heavyweaponsguy
seems like the long answer is the correct one

Ancient Alien
Just watch Ancient Aliens cos they’ve got it all worked out….”We are not alone! We have NEVER been alone!”

Rupert
Tavism13, then I wonder why they haven’t wiped us out for being the loudest in the known universe? It seems this planet won’t shut up.

Jackie
CelticCat, they would only see cavemen (actually more likely dinosaurs) if they captured light coming from us - the light they see now is images from our planet 34 million years ago.
If they sent a space probe, at say the speed of light, it would arrive at Earth in 34 million years’ time….and the images would presumably take another 34 million years to arrive. Who knows what earth would look like then? Truly mind-boggling!!

Good Explanation and And name Fermi Paradox

Player #6103765, Sads me to tell you we have both. Imagination and incredible imagination! Intelligenge? That, I lack!

If other life forms exist and they come here, they must be peaceful because they are certainly advanced enough to destroy us if they wanted. Don't fear all the unknown.

Rupert, hey just figured out how to comment..., and I hate to throw religion into this.., but the Bible says "God" created everything, then explain why the dinosaurs aren't mentioned in the Bible???

Zionista
Tremain White, how do we know dinosaurs were an alien species? I have never heard this before. Thanks!

Ellija
heavyweaponsguy, I always pick the long answer

CelticCat
Considering the speed of light,
Let’s say an alien civilisation is thriving 34 million light years away from us. Suppose they send a space probe to our galaxy. That probe sends some pictures of our cavemen taking a dump in the forest. Because even if currently we are in 2023, that probe was sent 34 million light years ago. There is always going to be time lapse between two intelligent lives in different galaxies.

Q
The mediocrity principle of course is highly debatable.

RICK-N-BACHER
Tremain White, but that's life on this planet. the question is asking about life on other planets.

herb198220, it's actually real

Tavism13
There is the Dark Forest Theory, which posits that there is intelligent life out there, but they are all keeping quiet because they know that if they are discovered, the others will wipe them out.
