Which novel is based on rumors of an actual attempt to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle?

Remember when Charles de said when he was angry at America after the war, “ I want all of the Americans out of France within 24 hours”. Someone said right afterwards does that include all of the ones that are buried here too? You could’ve heard a pin drop.
