Paco, Weather and earthquakes are considered to be in two separate fields NOW, but it hasn't always been that way. The disciplines have been divided and subdivided many times, leading to Geology, (specifically Seismology for earthquakes and Volcanology for volcanoes, for example), and Meteorology (and its similar sub-classifications). In the beginning, Earth/sky phenomena were all lumped together.
