Milo,
It’s buried under the Yucatan peninsula, I am assuming that it was identified as an impact crater geologically, but will have become filled at least partially over the last 66million years ( possibly with the bones of all the dinosaurs) and no longer has the original depth

Milo
20 km. means it's deeper than Mariana trench. ???

Chris
My husband’s family have beach homes in Chicxulub. We brought friends and family to visit Yucatán from Pennsylvania and they were amazed to look out at the spot in the Gulf where the asteroid fell, causing the extinction of the dinosaurs. There wasn’t even a sign or mention of the event! I couldn’t help chuckling to myself and thinking that the USA would have made the area into a tourist trap.

Apai
it can't be deeper than the Mariana trench...maybe at moment of impact, but now?

Barb@71
Milo, yes it's 11 km

J
I knew what caused it but not how enormous it was!!!

Milo,
Hmm, you're wrong I bet
It is 11,034 meters (36,201 feet) deep, which is almost 7 miles. Tell students that if you placed Mount Everest at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the peak would still be 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) below sea level.
The distance between the surface of the ocean and the trench's deepest point—the Challenger Deep, which lies about 200 miles (322 kilometers)

Alas Ken
I guessed it right--whoo hoo!!
