What is this marine creature called?

I've caught plenty of them off the coast of Maryland. Always put them back. Kids would be so interested in them. Hard to believe that they are used for bait, never noticed much meat on them. I did read that their blood was blue and used in the medical field.

I think that they are so cool. They look prehistoric.

I loved finding them swimming, eating, and mating off Cape Cod. One of the reasons I became a research scientist.

I've never seen these before and I thought it was some kind of Stingray with that shape & tail. And I can't imagine having 7 eyes!

I have always liked these creatures. Too bad they are experiencing environmental stresses and pressures.
